Well folk and blues fans we’ve finally gone and done it!!! Eddie Walker and Fraser Speirs have recorded THEIR album!!! The mixing is done and the title is looking like Red Shoes and Blues RAGRCD 008 with Picking Boys as the lead-in track and Red Shoes On My Feet as a stand-out self composed number given our customary treatment as well as our arranged tributes to Mississippi John Hurt, Big Bill Broonzy, Rev. Gary Davis and Hank Williams amongst others. Inevitably a couple of the songs have appeared before on my recordings but these now are up-to-date interpretations and I’ve never recorded as a guitar/ harmonica duo before so there is a very fresh feel to those familiar songs. Certainly Fraser hasn’t recorded any of them before so for his fans so here is a complete set of new tunes featuring his fabulous and dynamic contribution on harmonica. If we stick with our first thoughts on what the CD cover might be it’s a representation of the distinctive black and gold centre label from a 78rpm Paramount recording made in Chicago in the 1920s. That’s where and when so much of this kind of Hokum Blues had its roots, it’s been both our lives too as musicians for more than 45 years and we still continue to make our respective livings with it.
